Santas of all shapes and sizes took to the streets of Devizes on Sunday for a charity fun run in aid of the Mayor’s charities.

More than 100 people met in the Market Place for the event organised by Bag4Sport Foundation.

Mayor Sarah Bridewell and her family looked the part in full Santa costumes and many other entrants had also dressed to impress.

Coun Bridewell’s mayoral robes added to the festive feel as she wore a Mother Christmas outfit underneath.

She said: “I am very grateful to Bag4Sport Foundation for organising the run. It is great fun and it is lovely to see everyone out here wanting to take part.”

In addition to Bag4Sport Foundation, money will go to Devizes Food Bank and the Devizes branch of the British Heart Foundation.

Each entrant was given a Santa hat sponsored by the Peppermill restaurant and hotel.

One of the biggest contingents taking part came from Lavington School. PE teacher Lisa Adams said the run was one of the first of a number of keep-fit activities planned in coming months as pupils will also be taking part in the Devizes to Paris cycle ride organised by Bag4Sport Foundation in the summer.

Some pupils acted as marshalls while others took part in the run itself.

She said: “We are hoping that we can get some local companies to sponsor us for the bike ride and this seemed like a good way to let people know what we are doing.”

Eloise Primus from Bag4Sport Foundation thanked everyone who had helped on the day and with sponsorship.

She said: “We hope everyone enjoyed it and the Santa fun run will grow from this and become an annual event.”
