Firefighters tackled a fire in Rowde today in an upstairs flat in Springfield Road, Rowde.
Passers-by noticed the fire at around 9am. Two other flats were evacuated while Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service crews were on their way from Devizes.
The flat was empty at the time and the male owner was told about the fire, which gutted it.
No one was injured and the fire was under control by about 10am.
Fire services were on the scene until 11am, damping down and securing the flat.
Damage was done to the roof along with water damage to the flat below.
There was also smoke damage to the surrounding flats and houses backing onto the property.
Duty manager Dave Geddes, of Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Control, said the fire was still under investigation but the probable cause was a discarded cigarette.
