More than £2,700 has been awarded to six Wiltshire clubs to help encourage people to play sport.

The Return to Sport programme has been developed to encourage people over the age of 16 to get into sport.

The scheme has awarded in excess of £1,100 to Golden Fleece Cricket Club in Melksham, Marlborough Fencing Club and Run4Fitness in Trowbridge.

The Sports Stars programme works on a similar basis as Return to Sport but with young people aged five to 16 years.

A total of £1,600 in Sports Stars funding was granted to Potterne Cricket Club, Salisbury Stingrays Water Polo ASC, Chalke Valley Sports Club in Salisbury and Run4Fitness.

Jonathon Seed, cabinet member for leisure, said: “Wiltshire Council is keen to provide opportunities for residents to get involved in sport on a regular basis.
