Music lover Richard Benham is to stage a gig to raise money for Dorothy House in memory of his mother.

Audrey Benham, who died from cancer aged 71 two years ago, was helped in her final weeks by the hospice.

Mr Benham, supported by other members of his family, is to perform with his band Raindrops, in Bromham, where he grew up and Mrs Benham lived her whole life.

Mr Benham, 51, a manager at Calne Garage Services who lives in Pewsham, hopes scores of people will support the night of 1960s and 1970s music at Bromham Social Centre at 8pm on Saturday, October 25.

He said: “My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer about four years before she died. She had treatment and at first she seemed to recover well but then she got secondary tumours.

“She spent her last two weeks in Dorothy House and they were fantastic. They helped my family so much when we really needed help. Before my mum passed away she made me promise to raise some money with the band I play in.”

As well as music, there will be an auction and a raffle to help bring in more cash.

Mr Benham said: “I have already raised about £400 from the sale of a CD I have made, so I hope we can get to over £1,000.”

Mrs Benham, who was married to John for 50 years, had four children and three grandchildren.

Mr Benham said: “People have been very generous with prizes. Our top prize is a new Dyson but we also have a camel ride and vouchers for meals.”

Tickets cost £10 on (01249) 443764 or richardbenham@ sky.com
