Cricket fans will be able to practice their strokes all winter thanks to a grant from Devizes Area Board.

Potterne Cricket Club has been given £4,253. 60 by the board to help cover half the cost of putting indoor nets in the gym at Lavington School.

Club vice-chairman Graham Gaiger told the board that the nets would not just be for use by his members and the school but for the whole community.

He said Lavington School was keen to hire out the nets to people in the village and further afield.

School PE teacher Lisa Adams wrote a letter of support which he read out during the meeting. In it she said the new nets would be well used and and would encourage people to play the game all year round.

After the meeting Mr Gaiger said: “We are delighted to have received this very kind award from the Area Board.

"It will enable us to install a facility in Lavington school which will prove invaluable for us in our Winter senior and junior training programmes and will also enable other clubs and organisations in the area to benefit from them as well.

"We are very grateful to Lavington School for their assistance with this, especially Lisa Adams”

The club will pay the other half of the money towards the total cost of £8,507. 20 and in a report to the board it said it had a healthy income stream but this was mainly used for maintaining its own facilities and coaching juniors.”

This report also said:“The facility will not be on our premises nor will it be only for our usage. It will be a community wide facility available for anyone to book out of school hours.”
