There will be something for all the family when Devizes firm DS Smith Packaging opens its doors on October 4 to show off exactly what it does.

The packaging firm, which was known as Linpac until 2004, has operated in the town since 1972.

It now employs nearly 200 people and delivers £36m of corrugated packaging every year.

Managing director, South West, Steve Hinton said: “We have decided to hold an open day for employees and their families, neighbours and invited guests and anyone else in Devizes that would like to come and see what we do.”

Among the invited guests is Devizes mayor Sarah Bridewell.

The company has been a stalwart of Devizes Carnival in recent years and has wowed the crowds with floats decorated with cardboard figures including very realistic Lego characters.

This year the firm did not enter the procession so it could concentrate on the open day but many of its familiar models will be on display.

There will also be free children’s fairground rides, marquees with refreshments and guided tours of the factory.

The open day at the factory in Mill Road, Devizes, runs from 11am to 5pm.
