Mature art students Humphrey and Elizabeth Barnikel are preparing to present their work as part of a class exhibition at Corsham Fringe Festival on June 16 and 17.

The couple, who live in Corsham High Street, started on the advanced visual studies course at Wiltshire College Corsham in September and are pleased to have developed their skills and submitted work to be part of the festival.

The exhibition runs from 10am-4pm on the Saturday and 10am-3.30pm on the Sunday, at Corsham Methuen Centre, in Pickwick Road. It will feature work from 16 students including Mrs Barnikel’s portrait of her husband.

She said: “Everyone in the class is so creative and knowledgeable it is impossible not be inspired when you come to our group.

“I retired four years ago, so I have a lot more time to spend doing something I love and it has been great that my husband has been able to develop his artistic skills at the same time with me.”

The group, which includes semi-professional and professional artists, will be launching the exhibition with a private showing on June 15.

Artist and lecturer Les Matthews said: “All of the students share a dedicated and serious attitude to learning and are very supportive of each other.

“This is a community based group that exhibits widely and they are producing work of major importance to us all. It will be a joyful and a thought-provoking exhibition – not to be missed.”

The Corsham Festival runs from Thursday, June 14 until Sunday, June 17.
