A festive welcome was on hand when the Duchess of Cornwall arrived at Corsham Regis Primary School this morning to open a state-of-the-art extension.

Her Royal Highness, Camilla attended the school to unveil a commemorative plaque and celebrate the official opening of the £650,000 extension which replaces two old mobile classrooms and provides a wide range of facilities.

The Duchess arrived at the school at 10.15am and was met by 12 young children waving flags they had made, she was then presented to dignitaries by the deputy lieutenant of Wiltshire Sarah Troughton including Corsham Town Council chairman Allan Bosley, Headteacher Louisa Sellars and the chair of governors Helen Hynes.

Ms Sellers then proceeded to guide HRH around classrooms in the schools, starting in reception and working up to year 5 before going into an assembly where all of the school pupils sang two Christmas Carols, Away in a Manger and French carol, Fa La La La La.

Following the carols the proud headteacher said: "You did it again you brought a tear to my eye, its terribly naughty."

HRH, who was wearing a brown two piece skirt-suit and knee high brown boots, was then invited to unveil the plaque on a stand in the main hall.

She said: "Can I just say thank you to you all for showing me around your lovely school, its very successful.

"You have a wonderful headmistress."

She went on to say to the children: "I hope you have a very nice Christmas and I hope Father Christmas brings you everything you ask for."

Corsham Regis pupil Jaiden Clarke, aged eight, said after meeting Camilla: "I love this day. Its the best day of my life because I've met so many special children."
