Are these the footsteps of a Corsham artist?

Dog walker Andrew Williams has revealed an intriguing mystery along a woodland path.

A pair of shoes is nailed to the ground in the middle of Weavern Woods near Slaughterford, and it is not the first footwear to appear on the spot.

The men’s brown leather shoes, have become the centre of speculation for walkers and runners who use the path linking Corsham to Slaughterford.

Mr Williams, of Dicketts Road, Corsham, said he came across the puzzle at least 12 years ago and hopes someone can shed some light on it.

He said: “I moved to Corsham from Bath about 12 years ago and decided to explore the local area. I went for a walk in Weavern Woods in 1997 as I thought it looked like a nice route and that is when I came across some shoes.

“Originally there were pink ladies shoes there and every few months when I went for a walk down there they were still there.

“They were replaced by pink ladies boots in 2006, presumably because they were worn down.”

He said the boots were replaced two years ago by the men’s shoes as the boots had been torn, possibly by an animal.

Mr Williams said: “I just find it really intriguing. I thought it was a bit strange at first and something weird might be going on but now its just turned into a big mystery. It would be nice to find out why they are there.”

Corsham Town Council chairman Allan Bosley thinks the key to the mystery could lie with a local artist. He said: “It is all part of some artist’s work I think. They used to live in the area but I am not sure they are still here.”

Any one who has a clue to the mystery is invited to get in touch with Mr Williams through the Gazette and Herald.
