INSPIRING leaders from across the county came together at a sold out talk at the Pound Arts Centre to talk about changing the rules to improve our world.

The event, organised by 17-year-old Libby Forsyth as part of a school project, featured Rachel Neaman, the CEO of the Corsham Institute, Dave Jarman, a teaching fellow at the University of Bristol, Helen Belcher, former Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, and Kate Cross, the director of The Egg in Bath, at TEDxCorsham on January 19 to inspire the audience on becoming positive rule changers.

The Corsham School sixth former said: “It’s been absolutely incredible to showcase all the amazing talent in a small town such as Corsham. TEDxCorsham was a school project which ended up becoming a brilliant, fully-fledged event, which has been one of the most educational, inspirational experiences of my life.

“It’s been so lovely to engage with our communities’ local thinkers and then take that to a new level by joining a global conversation under our theme Changing the Rules.

“The entire experience, from applying for grants to approaching speakers, has been no less than spectacular.”

The four talks were filmed by the creative team from Corsham Institute and will be made available online via TEDx, which stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design, in the next few weeks.

Martin Campbell and Sophie Moysey from the Pound Arts also helped the Corsham School pupil organise the event.

Mr Campbell said: “We are delighted to have launched TEDxCorsham at The Pound Arts Centre – it is wonderful to demonstrate the collaborative and can-do spirit of this rural market town.

“What’s exciting about TEDx is we are able to get the chance to meet some the area’s best doers and innovators and put them on a global platform, and the biggest ideas bank in the world.

“Changing the Rules is a timely theme in this world of constant change. TEDxCorsham wants to seek out individuals who are doing things differently to push positive changes we can all feel excited about.”
