CORSHAM Primary School will be able to accept another 105 pupils at its Broadwood site, after Wiltshire Council confirmed it will be carrying out an extension to the school.

The extension, which includes six new classrooms, toilets, storage space and resource rooms in the first phase, is being funded by local authority money and section 106 money from a number of new developments in and around the town.

The second phase, which includes the expansion of the main hall, car park, four new classrooms. a group room and storage space, will only be carried out if more housing developments are approved in the area.

Commenting on the plans, a Wiltshire Council spokesman said: “We are working with the academy trust to expand Corsham Primary School on the Broadwood site.

“We have designed a two-phase expansion. The first phase will take the school from 210 places up to 315.

“At the moment, this first phase of expansion will provide sufficient additional places for housing that has already been approved.

“The second phase of expansion would take the school up to 420 places and would only be required if further housing was approved in the area.

“To fund the first phase of expansion we are using local authority grant funding as well as section 106 funding from housing at Copenacre, south of Potley Lane, Rudloe, No2 Westwells and Bradford Road.

“Detailed discussions have taken place with highways and a significant number of additional parking places will be provided on the school site.

“A consultation event was held at the school before Christmas where parents and local residents could drop in to look at the proposed plans.”
