FIREFIGHTERS joined fundraisers in Corsham for a sponsored walk over the weekend to pay their respects and raise money for the victims of the Grenfell Tower victims.
Dozens of people joined organiser Lydia Harris, who lives in Katherine Park, and Londoner Derry Charles on Sunday morning for the walk which started in Corsham and ended in Box.
The 24-year-old carer said: “It went really well and a lot more people turned out than I expected and the firefighters even brought their fire engine.
“We had to walk to Box in the end as the council were concerned about people walking on unpaved roads but everyone really enjoyed it and we have raised just under £1,000 so far.”
The carer, who was heartbroken by the disaster, said she felt compelled to raise money for the survivors but that the money will not leave her hands until she gets reassurances.
“We are in contact with local MPs and the money will not leave my hands until we know that it will go directly to the families,” she added.
