A SELF employed plumber from Corsham is hoping his good looks and sense of humour will win over the ladies on hit ITV 2 show Love Island after he was introduced to the group along with five other guys last night.

Steve Ball, who was born and bred in town, made a shock appearance on the relationship gameshow last night but best friend and work colleague Mike Blunsdon, who has known the plumber since their Corsham School days, said he is confident he will do well.

"He is the perfect person for the show because he is such a genuine guy," the 29-year-old said. "He is quite shy though so I'm hoping he comes out of his shell and will do really well. We had to keep it a secret from everyone though so it was quite a shock for some!"

Mr Blunsdon revealed that Steve had been approached by scouts for the show while they were on holiday for the plumber's 25th birthday in Magaluf two weeks ago and that he had been approached in the past but had declined as he was in his a relationship.

"My phone hasn't stopped ringing since last night, especially now that I'm looking after his social media. It's like a whole different world - and one we're not used to in Corsham," he added.

"He said his plan was to go in there and get Montana because she's such a nice girl but at the end of last night's show, she was getting cosy with another bloke, so he's got some competition."

The next episode of Love Island will be aired tonight at 9pm tonight on ITV2.
