A GLOBAL chemical supplier based in the heart of Corsham has become the county's first business to win a Queen's Award for Enterprise.

Glentham Life Sciences, which sources and supplies fine chemicals, biochemicals and raw materials to researchers and developers all over the world, received the award for outstanding short term growth on Friday and co-founders Sam White and Nick Zieleniewski are delighted.

"We are honoured to have won this prestigious award," Mr White said. "This is an important achievement for our company, which has grown rapidly thanks to the hard work of our team."

The company, which was founded in Wimbledon in 2013 with personal savings and a small loan, sells 95 per cent of its products overseas, has doubled export sales and grown its profits by more than 80 per cent in just three years. It moved to Ingoldmells Court two and a half years ago after outgrowing its previous premises.

Mr Zieleniewski added: "We are really chuffed about it and really grateful for the award. It is definitely going to give us more recognition and a big boost. It is so good to have and already several of our customers from far flung places are saying how good it is and they really recognise that it is from the royal family.

"We have been invited to a reception in Buckingham Palace in July and I am really excited about it. It is a great thing to look forward to."
