A NEW art gallery and shop dealing in antique paintings, limited edition prints and vintage gifts in Corsham was officially opened by Chippenham MP Michelle Donelan this week.

The Chippenham MP officially opened the John Parker Gallery, which moved from Devizes this year, by cutting the ribbon on Monday morning before joining owner John Parker and other councillors for a tour of the High Street shop.

"I have been very lucky I think," Mr Parker, who has been in the antique business for more than 40 years, said. "Bill Hall, the owner of the Martingate Centre, came which was excellent as he got to meet Michelle and talk about his plans for the centre but it was worthwhile all round I think.

"I am very pleased with the way the last three months have gone actually. I opened on January 7 and considering the time of year, the first three months have been a wonderful experience. Corsham is much more art aware than Devizes I think and it is a lovely shop in a very good position in Corsham.

"People have been very complimentary and everyone is so friendly and helpful to one another here. It is a new but good experience."

Hoping to cement his place in the historic High Street of Corsham, Mr Parker will continue to host a number of events for art lovers in and around the town including upcoming talks on making teddy bears, etchings, furniture painting and auctioneering.
