CHILDREN at Neston Primary School were invited to celebrate the magic of reading at their Harry Potter themed literacy festival.

More than 90 children, dressed head to toe in black school gowns, were sorted into each of the four Hogwarts' houses before enjoying Harry Potter themed fun on Tuesday, March 7.

Librarian Sheila Stansfield said: "Every year, we run a festival of reading and my own daughter said it would make her dreams come true if we held a Harry Potter themed one so we did.

"All the children were all sorted out into the four different houses and then they were allocated into groups with a year six prefect. The Key Stage one took part in the Care for Magical Creatures with Hagrid aka Mr Howe in the schools grounds and they got extra house points if they found the dragons egg."

Other children also took part in Transfiguration, Quidditch and Divination among other subjects with Ravenclaw winning the most points by the end of the evening.

"We have had such great feedback from the parents, it makes me a bit tearful thinking about it actually, but they said we were making memories," she added. "We sold hundreds of pounds worth of books on the night and that is what it is all about - getting children reading."
