A DISTRAUGHT family from Warminster are desperate to be reunited with their beloved cat, which went missing on Thursday (January 5).

George, who was rescued by the Hampson family five years ago, jumped into the van of a bathroom fitter who was carrying out work at the family’s home and ended up being driven 25 miles away to Colerne, after the workman did not spot him.

When he opened the van door around two hours later, George leapt out and bolted down the street in the direction of Thickwood. By the time he realised what had happened the eight-year-old cat had vanished.

“It’s devastating, we’ve heard nothing at all despite going to the area every day and alerting local residents,” said mum Jennifer Hampson.

“Our son, Alexander, is distraught and really wants him back home, as we all do. We have all treasured George since rescuing him and we’re hopeful that he will be found and returned.

“The response from everyone we’ve spoken to and on Facebook pages has been unbelievably kind. People have shown such warmth, care and concern and we are very thankful.

“George is very domesticated and has never even caught a mouse before, so we’re hoping he eventually becomes hungry to the point he ventures into someone’s house and the homeowner recognises him.”

George is a large cat and has a thick, soft sandy-coloured coat and very pale green eyes.

He is not wearing a collar but has been microchipped and will be reunited with his owners if he is taken into a Garstons surgery.

If you see George or have any information, call Mrs Hampson on 07866 977621.
