THE STREETS of Corsham oozed Christmas spirit on Friday as thousands of people turned out to watch eight-year-old Archie Enstone switch on the Christmas lights.

Archie, who won the Town Council's design a Christmas card competition with her deer design, helped illuminate the town in the evening with a flick of his wrist and was later joined on stage by Corsham Paralympian Stephanie Millward and her five medals.

It was really busy this year and so fabulous," Sharon Thomas, head of community services at Corsham Town Council, said. "We try to keep it family friendly and traditional because that is what people like. I wold say this year is definitely up there. Every year keeps getting bigger and hopefully better and we were so lucky with the weather this year.

Choirs from local schools helped add a little sparkle to the event, while Jodie Evans entertained the crowd as the One and Only Adele tribute act.

"There were so many of the Heywood Harmonies group that they could not all fit on stage but they were fantastic and everyone was having a singalong with Jodie, who has got the act down to a tee, even down to the hand movements. It was a fantastic event. It is a lot of work but it is so worth it and people just love it."
