PAYING members of Springfield Leisure Centre in Corsham are upset after Wiltshire Council announced that parts of the centre will have to be closed for urgent repairs once again.

Two months after a hole appeared in the gym floor, the sports hall had to be closed on Monday, November 28 as excess water had seeped into the floor and one disgruntled gym user said she is sick of the lack of information staff and the council provide.

She said: "I do not know what is going on but I am a member there and I pay my membership and a couple of months ago part of the gym was blocked off and they said something was wrong. Then I go back into the gym and there were beams propping it up. When I asked the staff who work there what was going on they were not sure.

"Why don't the staff know what it going on? It is a fantastic facility and it is so used by the public but it is being let down by the problems and the lack of communication and the lack of consideration."

According to the frustrated gym user, who pays up to £38.50 a month to use all of the facilities, staff working on the front desk had not been told any information about the upcoming repairs and had not offered anyone part refunds for the inconveniences.

"Someone needs to get hold of the facts and tell us what the hell is going on," she added. "There is a serious problem and someone isn't doing anything about it. If you have a paying client base, they should be able to access all of the facilities not just a tenth of them."

Although the centre remains open, Wiltshire Council have confirmed that any machines or activities will be moved elsewhere for members to use and that the work will be carried out free of charge by the original contractors.

A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: "We are committed to minimising any disruption and have been working with centre users to ensure where possible facilities affected are being made available elsewhere in the centre. The essential work will be carried out at no cost to the council following issues with the ceiling in the fitness suite and the flooring on the main hall.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused while the repairs are carried out early next year. More information will be available nearer the time, and there will be regular updates on http://corsham.ourcommunitymatters.org.uk."
