FOUR keen runners from a Corsham financial adviser business have raised £4,461 for their selected charities when they run in the Bath Half Marathon.

Lewis Baxter, Aimee Marshall, Greg Harris and Scott Gurd, who all work for family-run Unividual, based in Hartham Park, are tackling the 13.1 mile route on Sunday (Mar 13).

Mr Harris, 23, who is running for the Alzeimer's Society, said: “Over the last three years, three out of my four grandparents have unfortunately been suffering with the hideous mental illness that is Alzheimer’s disease.

"My three grandparents are currently at different stages, two are in care and the other is being looked after by my remaining grandmother.

"About two years ago I made the very difficult decision to stop visiting my grandmother Dee.

“Although this sounds very selfish I wanted to explain the reasoning; I simply could not bear to see the sweet old lady who use to split up little bags of sweets into separate piles of mine and my sisters favourites, no longer recognise me.”

Mr Baxter, a company director, is running for Cancer Research UK as his grandmother Valerie Fenn has battled breast cancer twice in the past.

The 28-year-old said: "Nanny Fenn is one hero. She has spent most of her life battling breast cancer and last year we had the devastating news that after all that fight she has Alzeimer's. I'm running for her and granddad who has supported Nanny through everything.

"Cancer Research and the Alzeimer's Society are two charities that not only mean a lot to me and my family but many of my clients."

The charities selected by the runners include Salisbury Hospice, Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation and Alzeimer's Society
