BAKERS went head-to-head in a Corsham cake-off competition to encourage older people to find out what’s on in their local area.

More than a 100 people turned out on the day. There were around 40 stalls set up in the Springfield Community Centre by groups including the Sing ‘n’ Smile Club and The Brunel Shed showcasing volunteering, social and fitness activities in the town.

Out of the ten contenders, Wendy Taylor, was judged the winner of the Wiltshire Age UK-sponsored event by The Methuen Arms Hotel and Restaurant chef Piero Boi.

Susan Desrosiers from Age UK said: “It went really well, fantastic actually. There must have been well over 100 people there and 40 organisations.

“There was a real buzz about the place. All the groups that came set up their displays showed what they did and people walked around to see what was going on.

“We had that many people that we spilled out into the exhibition hall of the centre.

“By bringing various clubs and organisations together in one place, we hoped to provide a showcase of activities that will encourage people to participate, get involved and expand their social life, reducing their risk of loneliness both now and in the future."
