YOUNG runner Zoe Stansfield-Cox has received an award after clocking up 150 miles before her tenth birthday.

The nine-year-old, who is a member of Corsham Running Club's One Mile Club, received her trophy on October 21.

Zoe is the club’s youngest member and only girl to accumulate 150 running miles after she joined the club in March 2010 when she was just four.

The Neston Primary School pupil said: “I was very excited to receive the award and I am very proud of myself to be the youngest and the first girl to do it.

“I like the running club. We play tag, bulldog, dress up in fancy dress and do relays where we wear oversized hats.”

Two boys have received this trophy in the past from the club but they were two years older than

Zoe received her 50 mile T-shirt at six-and-a-half and her 100 mile trophy when she was just eight.

She was encouraged to join by dad Allan Cox. She said: “They are what got me into it but I really like all sports. I do swimming, hockey, tennis, judo, I’m a brown belt, one down from black.

"My daddy got injured and ruined his knees. I’m not worried. It’s not going to happen to me. I’m smarter than dad and I can run faster. He can’t keep up with me."

The youngster is now on the road to completing her 175 miles total which will take another 25 weeks of running if she performs the one mile per week scheduled.

Humphrey Barnickle, the organiser of the One Mile Club, said: “She was always a very fast runner and in the 100 metre sprint she can beat all the other children in her year group at Neston Primary School."

The One Mile Club is based in Springfield Leisure Centre, Beechfield Road and meets up every Wednesday night at 6.15pm in which the children are encouraged to run a mile within 30 minutes.
