A BEREAVED daughter honoured a promise to her dying charity worker father last month by beating his previous fundraising total.

Leanne Davidge, 33, who lives in Corsham, promised her father Tony before he died of a brain tumour in August she would raise more than £3,000 to honour his memory.

To do so Ms Davidge organised a fundraiser at the Rudloe social club, in Leafy Lane, Corsham as well as organising a skydive later in the year.

Ms Davidge, a mother of two, said: “I feel a sense of gratitude that I have done what I said I would do. I wanted to hit his target and we are going to go way above it.

“He was diagnosed in April this year with a brain tumour and despite this distributed 2,500 leaflets around Bath and Corsham and raised almost £3,000.”

The money from the skydive is set to boost the total to well over the £6,000 mark, doubling Mr Davidge's own April record.

During the event, which attracted 250 people, £3 balloons and tags were available for people to write messages for lost loved ones and release into the air.

Ms Davidge added: "The balloon release was very emotional. A happy but emotional day I think but I had to do it for my piece of mind.

“The event was not just for me, it was for people who had lost children or loved ones. That made it personal for everyone involved. They were not just commemorating my dad.

“I want to thank everyone in the community because without them the event would not have happened.”

Mr Davidge had suffered for twenty-five years with different forms of cancer and was very involved in charity fundraisers surrounding the disease.

During the day there were many activities including a tombola, raffle as well an auction for a Bath rugby shirt, signed by the whole team, which was sold for £171.

All the money will be donated to Dorothy House Hospice, which cared for Mr Davidge during his final days.
