VOLUNTEERS and customers will be tucking into birthday cake on Saturday (September 19) as the Corsham Repair Café celebrates its second anniversary at The Pound arts centre.

Since launching in 2013, the free drop in event has helped to fix 150 household items including electricals, furniture, clothing, textiles and computers.

The Repair Café is run jointly between Pound Arts and Transcoco (Transition Community Corsham) and the aim of the quarterly event is to help people mend their broken household items, rather than throw them away.

Pip Parker from Transcoco’s Waste Group said: “We are delighted to be celebrating our second birthday. Over the past couple of years we hope that we have made a difference in Corsham. Through our Repair Cafes, we have encouraged customers to learn to fix items. We have shown that there is an alternative to putting items in the bin when they break and would encourage anyone with a dodgy toaster or broken zip to come along on Saturday and get fixing.”
