THE cyclist who collided with a lorry in Corsham on Monday is not expected to recover from his injuries, say close friends.

The man, in his 70s has been named locally as Roger Morris who was a lifelong member of Corsham Cricket Club.

It is believed he was on his way to the club on Monday morning to help them with work of renovating the square.

On the website, membership secretary John Gale said Mr Morris sustained "catastrophic brain injuries and his chances of regaining consciousness are described as less than slim".

He was was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance after suffering serious injuries when he collided with a HGV on Pickwick Road near the Methuen Arms around 9am.

The post added: “Roger Morris was on his way to the cricket field on Monday morning when he was involved in a collision with a lorry. The life threatening injuries were such that the Air Ambulance was called to take him to the intensive care unit at Southmead Hospital.

“Roger has suffered catastrophic brain injuries and his chances of regaining consciousness are described as less than slim. And of course, even if he were to regain consciousness he would be very, very badly damaged.

“At the moment it is just a waiting game - and it is fully expected that in the next few days Roger will pass away.

“All at Corsham Cricket Club were shocked to learn of Roger's injuries and it is with great sadness that this news is published.”

Mr Morris is believed to be in a critical condition at Southmead Hospital.

Police closed the road all morning while emergency services attended the scene. It reopened shortly before 12.30pm.
