POLICE officers in Corsham have vowed to step up patrols in and around the skate park near the Springfield Campus after a spate of graffiti was found on signs.

Corsham NPT along with Chippenham response officers have been called out to several incidents in the last month where they have found racial and offensive remarks spray painted on signs and gates.

PC Hazel Anderson said it has only been recently that the police received reports including one on July 21.

She added: “It is a shame that this has happened because it takes people a lot of time to clear up the mess.

“A lot of the graffiti has been cleared up but we have also had reports of paint being thrown in the skateboard park as well.

NPT officers have no evidence that suggests the incidents are linked but believe the people who are causing damage are likely to have used the facilities including the playing field.

The culprits are also leaving empty and broken glass bottles and other waste in and around the skate park – something which Corsham town council have to pay for to get removed.

PC Anderson added: “Obviously it is time, money and effort for people to clear the graffiti up so that people can use the things which were damaged.

“If anyone sees graffiti then please contact the police. The town council have to clean it up and it is money they could be spending on other worthwhile things for Corsham.”
