FROM dedicating their time to tending the war memorial garden to running coffee mornings, residents in Corsham have been awarded for going the extra mile in the town.

This year Corsham Town Council received 21 nominations for their annual Community Awards, now in its fifth year, with five awards being handed out at the Annual Town Meeting on April 16.

The winners were Janice Boswell and Janet Smith, who run the Chippenham and Corsham Guide Dog Support Group, which they set up in 2009. Their dedication to providing information and promoting awareness of the work of guide dogs made them a top contender for the awards.

Pat Whalley for the many books she has written on the history of the town and for organising the First World War concert last year.

Couple Jenny and Peter Collier for their work with the Royal British Legion Corsham branch. Mrs Collier has organised the poppy collection in the parish for the last 14 years and Mr Collier has been treasurer of the branch for nine years. They also look after the war memorial garden.

Tony Shardlow for the 27 years he has spent volunteering at Corsham Cricket Club, mainly as a groundsman but also for his other roles. He was instrumental in setting up the club’s academy for children.

The volunteers at Broadwood Cups Community Group in Rudloe were the final winners. They were nominated for the coffee mornings they run for parents of Corsham Primary and for organising the annual community Campfest event.
