CORSHAM’S annual Charity Sci-Fi family day is returning for another year and will take place at The Corsham School this Saturday.

The Simpsons family and their iconic sofa will be there and Darleks, Droids and other popular sci-fi characters will all be taking over the town as part of the annual event.

Bristolian actor Dave Prowse, who played the villainous Sith Lord in the original Star Wars films, as well as the Green Cross Code Man in the 1970s, is also making a guest appearance for the second year in a row.

Other guests will include Trevor Butterfield who played a mixture of roles in Star Wars including Bossk and a Stormtrooper, Femi Taylor who played Oola in Star Wars and Mike Edmonds who was Ewok Logray in the films.

At the event there will be a fancy dress competition with two categories, one for those aged ten and under and the other for those aged over 11. Prizes include Doctor Who and Star Wars books, gift vouchers and a family meal at Grounded in Corsham.

There will also be a variety of stands to look around, cakes and refreshment stalls and balloon maker Dave Hickory will be on hand to create model creations of Nerf guns and Ghostbuster style proton packs.

“It will be great fun and there will be lots of stuff for people to enjoy,” Charity sci-fi group chairman Ady Davies said, “We are hoping for 2,000-2,500 people.

“Again we are collecting for Wizzy Bugs, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Wiltshire Young Carers and Marie Curie. Even if people don’t come to the event if they could donate money to people holding buckets around the town that would be fantastic.”

On the day there will be free parking in the town’s car parks, which includes Newlands Road, Post Office Lane and High Street, organised by Corsham Town Council. There will also be disabled spaces reserved by the school.

The event will take place from 10.30am-4pm on Saturday, April 25 at the Lower School Hall, The Tynings. Tickets are available from Automattic Comics on Pickwick Road, or on the door. Under-fours go free and tickets for adults cost £4 and for children cost £3.
