RUNNERS are gearing up to take part in Corsham’s annual St George’s Day 10k and 2k fun run this Sunday.

Hundreds will be competing in the races, organised by Corsham Running Club, which are now in their 33rd year.

The 10k race will start at Corsham Town Football Club at 11am; the fun run will begin at 9.30am.

This year money raised from entry fees will go to Corsham Regis Primary School’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and local charities including food banks and the Sea Scouts.

Pupils, staff and parents from another primary school in the town, Corsham Primary School, are also busy training for the fun run with more than 160 taking part.

Jane Clarke from the school’s PTA has been co-ordinating the race fundraising. She said: “The children have been training hard, at school, with their friends and family and at Corsham Running Club’s one mile club.

“We are hoping to raise £3,000. We have done this event for three years in a row and so far we have made £7,000. This is our third and final time and we are hoping to hit an overall target of £10,000.

“The money will go towards enriching the experiences of children at Corsham Primary School.”

More than 100 youngsters, staff and parents from Heywood Prep are also going to be lacing up their running shoes to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Year 4 pupil Jack Zino said: “I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve done a 2k before, but it will be good fun to do it with all my friends.”
