There has been a buzz about books at Lacock C of E Primary School as pupils buried their heads in novels as part of a book week.

Events in and around the school have been organised by teacher Ann White to encourage the children to read more.

On Monday and Tuesday pupils travelled to the Springfield Community Campus to meet a librarian and learn how to take books out and use the library’s facilities.

More than 30 of the pupils have applied for a library card leading up to the visit and since its opening 360 people have joined the new library.

Wiltshire Council said it has seen a huge increase in visitor numbers, with more than 11,000 in August.

Corsham Bookshop also hosted a book fair and brought in a selection of books for the pupils to buy.

Fictional character Old Tom from the book Mousehole Cat will pay the children a visit and pupils dressed as their favourite book characters.

The children have also been taking part in a month-long sponsored readathon to raise money for charity.
