Eye-catching and thought-provoking benches have been unveiled at the Lacock Road war memorial in Corsham.

With the backing of the Royal British Legion branch, Corsham Town Council secured £1,000 to replace old wooden seats with metal ones.

Branch RBL president Charles Fuller said: “It brings 100 years ago back to the children. I think we should be proud of them.”

They are positioned where St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School pupils walk past and Mr Fuller hopes it will prompt them to ask their parents questions to ensure the soldiers who died live on in the memory of future generations.

Corsham Town Council chairman Ruth Hopkinson said: “They have improved the look of the war memorial; they’ve made it a focal point.”
