A head for heights was on the menu as young people got a taste for scaling the climbing wall at Corsham's Springfield Community Campus.

The campus also served up a Great British Bake Off-style treat as more than 60 young people aged 13 to 19 were offered baking lessons.

Corsham Area Board held the free event to showcase the facilities and increase the appeal of Springfield Community Campus to young people.

Corsham School pupil Tycjan, 12, said: “It’s pretty fun – the climbing is enjoyable and the instructors were really good at showing me what to do. I also tried some cooking and I really enjoyed it.”

The sessions also gave youngsters the opportunity to have a say on the activities and facilities they would like to see at the campus. Their views will be fed into Corsham’s new Local Youth Network.

Youth group representatives and young people will meet at the campus on Tuesday, November 4 to help put together a plan of action.

Jonathon Seed, cabinet member for campuses, said: “I’m delighted that the young people of Corsham have got behind this event.

“Getting young people involved in the campus and showcasing the many facilities available can only help to bridge the generation gap and foster a sense of community spirit.”
