Adrenalin junkie Lucie Whiting will be braving the elements and embarking on a trek across the Sahara Desert to raise money for the charity which saved her brother’s life.

Miss Whiting, 28, from Corsham, will be walking for more than two weeks and up to 12 hours a day in blistering heat across the sand carrying kit and supplies, with water being carried by a team of camels.

The former Corsham School pupil is no stranger to exploring. In 2010 she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, raising £9,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, following the death of her grandfather from the disease.

And last year the marketing executive trekked to Mount Everest raising £3,800 for the teenage cancer ward at Bristol Royal Infirmary, the hospital where brother Josh, 23, underwent a life-saving bone marrow transplant three years ago.

She has now set herself the challenge of trekking the Sahara to raise even more money for the charity Above and Beyond. It supports the Bristol Royal Infirmary which is establishing a new teenage cancer ward.

She is also doing an Arctic survival challenge in January where she will be walking for 10 hours a day building igloos, fishing for food and walking with a team of huskies as part of the cold challenge.

She said: “After the amazing help and support of the hospital and Anthony Nolan Bone marrow charity, I decided I wanted to raise money for the hospital to give something back.

“I came up with the idea of doing something pretty epic and combining two trips over three months.

“It took me a while to think of something that kept up with my usual risky standards and I eventually settled on a hot and cold extreme challenge.

“I like to do mad adventure things, rather than a bike ride or sponsored swim, because I am an adrenaline junkie.”

So far Miss Whiting has raised £1,500 and her target is £3,000. To donate go to www.justgiving.com/luciewhiting-saharatoarctic
