Since the Health and Social Care Bill was first announced, the Liberal Democrats, my fellow MPs, medical professionals and many others across the country have raised significant concerns about the NHS reforms.

Last week, I welcomed the Government’s announcement of changes to its Health Bill to meet these concerns.

Having listened to the public and people who work in our National Health Service, these changes will ensure the bill does no special favours for the private sector and that it proceeds at a pace of reform that the NHS itself can be confident is well-ordered, with clinical commissioning groups that, as public bodies, are properly accountable both locally and to Parliament.

In Westminster, I took time out to support Lloyds TSB’s financial education programme Money For Life (http://www.moneyforlifeprogramme.org.uk/) which aims to equip Further Education and Adult and Community learners with the confidence and knowledge of financial issues, products and services which they can then pass on to other learners and community groups.

I asked the Minister for Civil Society what plans his department has to match young people with volunteering opportunities and whether the new local infrastructure fund will be able to support initiatives such as proposed by Grow, the team behind Wiltshire’s volunteer centre in Chippenham.

The Minister confirmed that the Government will be investing £40million over the next two years to support volunteering infrastructure and social action.

There was good news for Melksham, with the announcement that Wiltshire Council will not be moving services to an out-of-town campus.

I am delighted that the council has listened to Melksham residents and local campaigners, who have worked tirelessly to keep essential services in the town centre. A town centre campus is good news for local businesses, library users dependent on public transport and also the environment.

I called on the Corsham Wind Band as they practised at the Pound Arts Centre.

They will be performing this Saturday at the French Day during the Corsham Festival. Later, I was given a tour of river hydro power projects around my constituency and met an inspiring veteran hydro power pioneer in Reybridge, near Lacock.

My next constituency surgeries will be on Friday June 24, 4pm to 5pm in Limpley Stoke Village Hall and Friday July 1, 12.30pm to 2pm in The Pound arts centre, Corsham.
