10:37am Monday 1st May 2006 in Chippenham By Gordon Simpson
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 27-year-old man sustained serious facial injuries when he was hit in the face with a glass bottle in Chippenham.
The incident happened at about 12.45am on Saturday at the entrance to Parkfields on Park Lane.
The man and his girlfriend were walking back from a night out in Chippenham when they stopped to speak to two men dragging a rubbish bin along the street.
One man ran off, while the second man remained and spoke to the couple.
The second man then hit the victim to the face with a glass bottle in an unprovoked attack.
He was taken to hospital and treated for his facial injuries, as well as a broken foot.
The offender is described as white, six-foot, 18 to 20-years-old, stocky to chubby build, with dark, short, spiked hair, stubble, a prominent nose and round face.
Police are appealing for any witnesses and would particularly like to speak to the man who ran off before the attack took place.
