Fundraiser's Help for Heroes ball in Chippenham

Fundraiser Nikki Capp is organising a charity ball to raise £10,000 for Help for Heroes.

Fundraiser Mrs Capp, 27 of Downing Street, Chippenham, raised £7,000 for Cancer Research UK through a charity ball in 2006 after her uncle died from cancer.

But now, Mrs Capp, who works at The Crown in Giddeahall, said after raising a total of £15,000 for the charity through marathon’s and other fundraising events, she decided to support Help for Heroes this year.

“At the pub where I work I have taken part in the naked calender which is in aid of Help for Heroes so I thought lets make a year of it.

“In Wiltshire you can’t walk down the street without hearing about the charity, or speaking to people who have relatives serving.

“Several people I used to go to school with are fighting in Afghanistan so it is very much at the fore front of people’s minds.”

The charity ball, which will be held at Grittleton House, will take place on May 8 from 7.30pm to 2am and will have a circus theme with everything from magicians to firedancers, quizzes, casions, dancers and DJ’s.

There will be a charity auction during the night, with prizes including a studio photoshoot, a day in a recording studio, and one off jewellery designs.

Miss Capp added: “Any donations for the auction will be gratefully received.

“Last year we had some great prizes and raised a lot of money, but this year I am aiming even bigger and have opened the ball up to even more people.

“We had about 200 people, and I kenw about 30 per cent of them, but there was such a great mix of people from teenagers right through to people in their 60s.

“It takes a lot of organising, but I really enjoy it and want to raise as much money as possible for the charity.”
