Headteacher Gerard MacMahon has today confirmed that a Year 8 pupil at Sheldon School is thought to have swine flu.
Mr MacMahon has said that the school is receiving advice from the NHS about how best to deal with the situation and letters have been sent out to parents.
Mr MacMahon said: "We have been informed by a parent that a Year 8 pupil is thought to have swine flu. "It seems that the flu is now widespread across the country.
"We hope the pupil affected makes a speedy recovery.
"The local NHS have given us clear and useful advice. "We are keeping the school open, but encouraging anyone with flu symptoms to stay at home and see a doctor. "We are continuing to stress the importance of good personal hygiene."
"Pupils, their parents and all our staff have been very calm and sensible. "We sent a letter home as soon as we knew about the possible case and we have put clear advice on our website with links to the NHS."
This is the first possible case of swine flu at a Chippenham school since the outbreak of the bug earlier this year.
