Librarians in Wiltshire are preparing for an invasion of the daleks this month. Cybermen and Dr Who’s arch enemy Davros will be joining the daleks and other characters from the hit television series at Chippenham library on 7 March.
The sci-fi theme will be continued in a whole day of free activities designed to encourage children and young people into the library. These will include a Dr Who fancy dress parade, Dr Who interactive storytelling, colouring competitions and quizzes. There will be a sci-fi expert and enthusiast from Automattic (correct spelling) Comics and local science fiction writer David Johnson will be hosting a writing workshop.
Community Librarian Basil Nankivell said: “We’re extremely excited about this event - we’ve already got a dalek and two cybermen in the library and they’ve generated a lot of interest, children love having their photos taken with them. We want children to think of libraries as entertaining places, where they can borrow Dr Who books, hire DVDs and have a bit of fun.”
Children who’d like to come to the interactive story session or young writers’ workshop are advised to call the library to book a free place in advance.
Similar events have proved immensely popular. Visitor figures trebled from 500 to 1500 when Bradford on Avon library held a Dr Who day last month.
Staff in Chippenham are bracing themselves for the invasion.
