Chippenham shop workers confronted by syringe wielding man

Staff in the Blockbuster video store in Chippenham were confronted by a man brandishing what they believed to be a syringe as he stole DVD's.

The incident took place on Sunday just after before 12.30pm when the 36-year-old man went into the shop in the Hathaway Retail Park and started to put DVD's inside his jacket.

Staff then approached the man when they realised what he was doing and he said he would stab them if they got any closer.

He then brandished a sharp object they believed to have either been a syringe or a small knife before running out of the store.

Sergeant Lee Armit, head of the Chippenham Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "This was a serious incident and we would always advise people to put their own safety first.

"This man was arrested and has been released on police bail."

Anyone with information on this incident should contact Chippenham Police on 0845 408 7000, or anonymously, on Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.

Seems like a reasonable outcome to deal with this nutter. Jesus, just think, he's still walking the streets. No doubt there'll be another story next week of him re-offending...

Oh dear,

If we hear of this chap causing more grief, then the police need to put their hands up.

Back when i had my training for this kinda thing happening in a shop we where told theft became armed robbery if they threatened you with something even if they just threatened to throw a tin at you.
Maybe Chippenham police missed that memo

Doh! It's not the outcome: what it means is that they know who the person is and have released them to come back at a future date while further enquiries are made.
