Armed officers and police dogs swooped on the Boots store in Chippenham High Street in the early hours of this morning after two men broke into the shop after drilling a hole in the roof.
Three police cars full of police officers, traffic cops, members of the armed response unit and police dogs surrounded the building just after 3am after reports of a break in.
Two men, both in their late 20s, had managed to get onto the roof and drill a large hole through the concrete to gain access.
PC Dave Turner, who was at the scene, said: "We received a call from a neighbour and immediately headed out to the store.
"One officer went around the back and found that a fire exit was unsecured and a large hole had been cut into the roof.
"The remaining officers surrounded and the building and the two men inside realised they had been rumbled.
"As they tried to get back up through the hole the officer was waiting for them and sprayed them both with Pava spray to detain them."
The men had a rucksack full of bin liners and pliers.
The men are both still in custody helping police with their enquires.
