Man remanded over Yatesbury rape charge

A man has been remanded in custody accused of raping a woman in her seventies at Yatesbury.

Michael Alcock appeared at Swindon Crown Court today in connection with the alleged sex attack.

The 27-year-old who was dressed in a grey sweat shirt spoke only to confirm his name during the brief hearing.

Alcock, of Bridgend, South Wales, is accused of one count of rape on Wednesday December 3.

The defendant, who is stocky and with short dark hair, was remanded in custody to Friday February 13 when he is due to enter his plea to the charge.

It is alleged that the pensioner was attacked near Yatesbury on the Wednesday afternoon at the spot which is popular with dog walkers.

She was in a small wooded area down a slip road off the A4 between Cherhill and Beckhampton, which leads to The Old Gymnasium and Officer’s Mess when she said the man struck.

The victim described her attacker as being a white man, about 5ft 6ins tall and in his late twenties to early thirties.

He had blue eyes, designer stubble, was of stocky build, had dark hair and a chubby face and was wearing a blue or black jacket, jeans and a black and grey striped bobble hat. The victim also remembers him to be carrying a dark coloured rucksack.

Police stopped traffic on the A4 the day after to speak to motorists to see if they had seen anything relating to the allegation.
