Homeless need helpers

North Wilts homeless charity Doorway is holding a recruitment morning.

The event will be held on Tuesday,October 21 from 9am to 1pm at The Salvation Army Hall, Chippenham for anyone interested in volunteering for the project.

There will be talks about what the charity does and the chance to ask questions.

The group needs befrienders who will sit and share a meal with guests or help them make phone calls and contact other agencies for support.

Catering Assistants who are prepared to do a variety of tasks are also needed, as are cooks to help plan, prepare and cook meals (breakfasts on Mondays and two-course lunches on Thursdays) for an average of 40 to 50 people.

General helpers are wanted to do a variety of tasks such as making tea/coffee for guests, carrying out laundry duties, sorting clothing and food parcels for guests, and general tidying up after the sessions.

Volunteers receive full training and support with expenses, such as travel to the centre and car parking.

Free meals are also provided.
