TWO women who stole more than £1,000 worth of items from Morrisons in Chippenham have been jailed.

Vasilica Tirsogoiu, 38, and Lina-Irina Tarsogoiu, 31, both of Hamilton Road Birmingham, stole a number of items up to the value of £1,435, from the Cepen Way supermarket between November 27 and March 21.

Vasilica pleaded guilty to four counts of shoplifting and one count of going equipped to steal and was sentenced to 40 weeks in prison at Swindon Magistrates Court on March 21.

Lina-Irina pleaded guilty to three counts of shoplifting, one count of going equipped to steal, and one count of committing an offence while subject to a suspended sentence and was sentenced to 32 weeks in prison.

Sergeant Mark Simpson, from Wiltshire North Community Policing Team, said: "This was an excellent result for our Community Policing Team and I welcome the sentence, which reflects the seriousness of these offences.

"This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated and I want the public to know that Wiltshire Police will take action to prosecute shoplifters."
