FRIENDS and family of 18-year-old Josh Hammond, who killed himself in Chippenham last November, have donated £3,789.20 to Wiltshire Mind in his memory.

Kerry and Jason Hammond, of Lingfield Close, were heartbroken by the death of their son Josh, but friends and family rallied round them and helped raise money in his memory at a special football and raffle day last year.

Half of the money raised was presented to Wiltshire Mind at Stanley Park.

"It is really important that we gave something to Wiltshire Mind because you never know if it is going to happen to someone close to you," one of the organisers Caroline Norcott said.

"We decided to give something to the local branch in Melksham so that the money would go towards children and the next generation in the area.

"Unfortunately, mental health is only something which is going to get worse and we want children to be aware that it's okay not to be okay and that there's help out there."

The group have raised more than £7,000 in the 18-year-old's memory, with £1,400 going to his parents Kerry and Jason for his headstone and the rest going to national Mind.

"Thank you to Stanley Park and everyone that helped out on the day, and of course everyone who donated prizes," Mrs Norcott added. "Without them, none of this could have happened."
