ABBEYFIELD School in Chippenham has been named as a directly licensed centre for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award following a ceremony at St James's Palace.

Headteacher Ian Tucker, who attended the presentation alongside Duke of Edinburgh Award recipients, was presented the certificate centre marking the school as a fully accredited Designated Lead Centre on January 16 by BAFTA award winner, actor and film maker Ray Panthaki.

“It was an inspiring experience to hear so many young people talk about their achievements which helped them gain such a prestigious award," Mr Tucker said.

"The dedication of our team at Abbeyfield, led by Centre Leader Sally Silcock, is enabling students to have the chance to develop resilient life skills and leadership qualities through the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

"I am proud that this school has been recognised and we are delighted to have so many students taking part in this highly sought after programme.”

Abbeyfield currently offer pupils the opportunity to take part in the Bronze and Gold Awards, with 70 pupils currently embarking on their Bronze.
