A NEW storage cabinet has been installed in the centre of Chippenham to help crisis volunteers co-ordinate their work and store vital equipment.
Councillors from the
planning, environment and transport committee at Chippenham Town Council agreed to fund the unit on Town Bridge, which was officially opened last week.
It means crisis groups like Chippenham Street Pastors and the Red Cross volunteers, who recently helped with the gas explosion in the centre of town, will be able to co-ordinate their responses more efficiently.
“The storage box is yet another excellent example of how the town council and the Street Pastors are working together,” said Mayor, Councillor Mary Norton said.
“It is essential that the pastors have supplies where they are needed and this provides easy access in the town centre.”
Michael Weeks, of the street pastors, added: “The new storage unit will enable us to be on the streets for longer during busy times as we won’t have to return to base.”
