A CONCERT to remember will be hosted in Chippenham later this month to help raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK.

Mike and Melanie Smith, of Greenway Lane, have organised the concert at St Andrews Church in memory of their mothers Dorothy Smith and Joy Mortimer, who died just weeks apart from each other aged 93 and 90.

"Both our mothers died eight weeks apart from one another in the same care home," Mr Smith said. "My mum Dorothy had Alzheimer's and Joy had vascular dementia, both very different strains of dementia, and after they passed away the family thought why don’t we do something positive in their memory."

Despite organising the concert, which will start at 7.30pm on November 25, Mr Smith will also be singing in the Find Your Voice Community Choir alongside his twin brother Pete. The 4 + 1 jazz band will also be performing on the night followed by a raffle with prizes donated from lots of local businesses.

“So many people are affected by dementia and we want to help change that," Mr Smith said. "We want to raise as much money as possible so that we can help these charities research dementia and help find a cure for it."

Tickets for the show, which cost £7, can be purchased from the Neeld or from Haine and Smiths in Chippenham otherwise donations can be made via www.justgiving.com/fundraising/mj-smith.
