THE director of a care home in Chippenham is refusing to accept the findings of a CQC report which graded the home as ‘inadequate’, despite being investigated by local authorities.

Goldenley Care Home, based in Forest Lane, is being investigated by Wiltshire Police and Wiltshire Council after allegations were made about potential abuse at the home, including verbal and physical abuse as well as poor care practice.

In the report, which was published on September 19, the care home has also been issued a warning over six breaches of care regulations, and criticised for not completing adequate risk assessments, restricting residents’ smoking habits and failing to comply with previous demands to improve.

Care home director Satbir Singh Ahluwalia said: “We do not accept the report by the CQC as we have raised issues with the way some of the things were interpreted. It is inaccurate and we will be going back to them.We have never disputed a report before but on this occasion we will

“All apart from one member of staff have been cleared from the allegations of abuse and the decision on that remaining member of staff is still pending by police. In my opinion, there is no valid evidence to prove those allegations.

“We, of course, carry out our own reviews when allegations are made and an action plan is in place

already to tackle these issues and to encourage staff to work together.”

The report, which was compiled following a four-day visit in June and July, was not all negative.

It also highlighted positive comments from residents about staff and their conduct, visiting hours and their food.

However, one former member of staff, who does not want to be named, told the Gazette: “I’m not surprised by the CQC report at all. Things aren’t done properly there, there’s no training.

“The management don’t listen to issues, complaints or allegations of abuse either.”

Commenting on the investigation, a Wiltshire Council spokesman said: “Our primary concern is the wellbeing of those living in the home.

“Due to the concerns about the care provided, we are not currently making any new placements at Goldenley Residential Home.

“We will continue to monitor the home closely and liaise with other placing authorities and those funding their own care, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of individual residents.”
