THE Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers will be celebrating the REME Corps 75th Birthday on Sunday at the new REME Museum in Lyneham on Sunday (October 1).

To mark the special occasion, there will be a wide range of exciting activities and family events.

There will be a children’s obstacle course manned by uniformed REME personnel, and other sports activities where visitors can pit themselves against some REME Reserves. Historical vehicles will be on display alongside more modern recovery vehicles, as well as engineering displays. The REME band will also be performing.

But no birthday would be complete without a giant REME-themed birthday cake, which will be cut by one of the founder members of REME Corps, accompanied by one of their youngest serving Craftsman.

Museum Director Major Rick Henderson said: “The Museum is proud to be able to host this very special birthday celebration. Throughout its history, REME has been at the heart of the Army’s operations worldwide, and we aim to showcase the Corps fine heritage with a whole range of fun activities for the public. It will be a day to remember.”

REME Museum tells the story of one of the British Army’s most essential Corps. It opened earlier this year at its new home at MoD Lyneham.
