A HAIR stylist from Chippenham has been singled out from thousands of specs wearers from across the country and been named as the regional finalist in the 2017 Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.

Cheryl Klukowski-Stevenson entered the competition after a friend, who used to work at the Borough Parade store, saw one of her selfies and said it would make a great entry.

"I was pretty shocked when I found out I’d won but it was a really nice surprise," the 35-year-old said. "I’ve worn glasses since I was 20 and have five pairs which I alternate depending on my outfit. I love wearing them, so to have got even this far in a competition that champions specs is great."

Ms Klukowski-Stevenson visited the Borough Parade Store last week where she was presented with a certificate, a bottle of champagne and a £150 eyewear voucher."

Mike Thompson, store director at Specsavers Chippenham, said: "It’s great to have someone from the town get through and we’re all hoping Cheryl can go one stage further. It was lovely to meet her when she came into the store and we wish her all the best in the competition."

The competition has five age categories plus a Facebook favourite voted for the public and an overall national winner from each category will win a VIP makeover and the opportunity to mingle with the stars at the awards in London next month.

The winners will also take home £10,000 in cash and £1,000 worth of new glasses while £1 from each entry will go towards anti-bullying charity Kidscape.
